The most famous Greek agora is probably the Agora of Athens. Although it was once home to private citizens, Pisistratus made changes in the 6th century BCE that basically caused everyone to be kicked out. Walling off this portion of the city, he made it into the center of local government with fountains, meeting places, and several temples to Hepaeustus and Zeus. Most of the largest public meetings were held here, including court proceedings.
