This article is the third in a series discussing evolution and creationism. Part I introduced the subject by defining evolution and creationism and discussing some typical tactics creationists use to promote their viewpoint. Part II considered science and whether evolution and creationism are scientific. This article can be read without reading the previous two but it is recommended that you read them first.
This article focuses on the evidence and usefulness of evolution and creationism. Creationists will frequently claim that there is no evidence of evolution (common descent). We will begin by considering what the evidence is for common descent. Following that we can look at how useful evolution is in the sciences. Finally we will see whether there is evidence for creationism and the usefulness of creationism as a theory of origins.
Evolution is a complex subject that draws from many sciences. There is an incredible amount of information relating to the evidence and use of evolution. We will only barely scratch the surface of the subject in this article. The goal, however, is to provide a high level overview of the topics - with a few examples - in a manner that shows how they relate to one another and makes the case that evolution is overwhelmingly supported by the evidence, that evolution is extremely useful and important as a concept, and that creationism is not supported by the evidence.
