Born in 1387, John Hunyadi is a Hungarian national hero because f his efforts against the Ottoman Turks. He did a great deal to prevent Turkish rule from being extended into Europe. At the same time, though, he also helped the Turks get as far as they did. He sent artillery experts to help Ottoman sultan Mehmed II capture Constantinople because he wanted to end the heresy of Eastern Orthodox Christianity.
