German Emperor Frederick II of Hohenstaufen married Yolanda, heir to the Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem. This gave Frederick claim to the throne of Jerusalem and when Yolanda died giving birth to their son, Conrad, Frederick laid sole claim to Jerusalem. He launched the Sixth Crusade in 1228 and achieved diplomatic rather than military success.
