Born in 1337, Timur-i Lang (Tamerlane, Timur the Lame), was the brutal Mongol ruler of Samarkand who cut a wide swath of destruction across Persia and the Middle East. Timur founded the Timurid Dynasty and became infamous for building pyramids out of the skulls of his slain enemies.
