Eleanor of Aquitaine Illustrations, Drawings, Woodcuts «Back to Last Page | Images of the Crusades Gallery » Eleanor of Aquitaine was one of the most powerful, most interesting, and most important women of the Middle Ages. She was duchess of Aquitaine, one of the richest lands in Europe. She was successively both Queen of France and Queen of England. Three of her ten children were crowned kings of England (Henry, Richard, John). Three daughters married powerful European rulers. Today, though, Eleanor of Aquitaine's genuine accomplishments tend to be overshadowed by the myths that grew up around her.
