Cities of the Crusades

«Back to Last Page | Cities of the Crusades Gallery »

Acre was one of the most contested cities during the Cursades. King Baldwin I of Jerusalem captured Acre during the First Crusade with the aid of a fleet from Genoa in 1104, but it was later lost. The biggest battle of Acre occurred during the Second Crusade when the forces of Philip and Richard the Lionheart besieged the city. Saladin tried desperately to relieve the city, but was unable and it eventually fell.
