Discussion: Doctors Discriminating Against Gays

A forum member writes: In California, two physicians are being sued for something or other, the claim is that they refused to provide IVF to an unmarried woman. ... I believe that most, if not all, people should have the right to follow their deeply held beliefs and that it is wrong to expect physicians to set aside their consciences when they are at work. I also believe that this should apply to most everyone, that we should not be forced to do things which violate our ethical standards.

Am I wrong?


What do you think: should doctors be allowed to refuse to treat minorities, like gays, if they consider providing such treatment to that minority is immoral? Should people in general be allowed to deny services to minorities if they think such discrimination is morally required by their religion? Read More...
