Daily Poll: How Has the So-Called War on Terrorism Been Going?

Wednesday May 17, 2006
The American government doesn't have to work hard to sell the idea that terrorism should be fought, but it has had to work overtime to argue that it's particular take on the war and its particular methods should be used. Do you believe the rhetoric coming from George W. Bush and his administration about how wonderful they are doing in their fight against terrorism by invading and occupying Iraq?

Daily Poll: How do you feel about the way the war against terrorism has been proceeding?

  1. It's going great - we've eliminated Saddam Hussein and are paving the way for a democratic Middle East.
  2. It's going badly - we've become distracted by Iraq and haven't been focusing on the real threats, like Osama bin Laden.
  3. I don't know - it's all so confused right now.
  4. I don't really care.

I’m sorry, but I can’t answer this poll by clicking on a link.

1. It’s going great - Corporations that are part of the Global Industrial-Military Complex (private profit, public cost) probably are thinking that the war is a good thing as long as it doesn’t hurt the bottom line.

2. It’s going badly - Well, the relatives of 300,000 dead Iraqi men, women, and children probably think that the war was a bad idea to begin with.

3. I don’t know - Must be working too hard to pay the mortgage on that new McMansion to pay much attention to what is happening in the rest of the world.

4. I don’t care - Must be living on another world or plane of existence. Can I have some of what you are smoking? (joke)

The “War on Terrorism” is not about preventing terrorism, unless by that term you mean resistance to the global poliarchy. Ironically, the USA was convicted in court of terrorizing the country of Nicaragua, but things like that go down the collective memory hole, don’t they?
