Hal Lindsey Dropped from TBN for Arab Bashing

Saturday January 7, 2006
His writing and reporting has been a staple of the Christian Right for decades, but today Hal Lindsey appears to be in the dog house. Trinity Broadcasting Network has cancelled his weekly show "International Intelligence Briefing." At first they denied that it had anything to do with his attacks on Islam; later they admitted that this was precisely the reason. Why did they lie the first time?

Annointed News reports:

[John Casoria, general counsel for the network] said he could not recall specific examples from Lindsey's programs that were anti-Arab or anti-Muslim, but he expressed the network's concern about how Muslims are portrayed.

"TBN is a worldwide ministry; we have an entire channel that airs 24 hours a day, seven days a week in Arabic," he said. "We are trying to reach the Islamic world and open a dialogue with them regarding Christ and Christianity."

Casoria explained, "We do not feel that the best witness of Christ is to bash them but rather to show them the nature of Christ the way Christ said to present himself and that is through love, understanding and the presentation of the gospel to them."

Strange, but they didn't seem to mind Lindsey's bashing Arabs and Muslims before. What prompted this change? Was it pure economics or a genuine change of heart? Annointed News appears to disapprove of the decision, so I guess they must think that bashing others is a good idea.
