Journey to Atheism

Sunday July 31, 2005
There are many different paths which people take to atheism. Some are raised atheists. Some are raised in very religious environments and then abandon religion later in their lives. Some are raised in vaguely religious environments, become more religious on their own, and then turn away from religion eventually. Every story is a little different.

Kele Cable writes:

I did believe in God when I was younger. I bought the whole Bible story but how was I supposed to know? It was the only thing I ever heard. Eventually, I did start questioning a God, like when I was 4 or 5 or 6 years old. I'm not quite sure. I remember a conversation with my mother in a McDonald's on Rice Street (My dad was getting the food or something). I can't remember what was said exactly but it must have been something along the lines of me saying nothing as extreme as "I don't believe in God" but something similar to it. My mom responded "So you're an atheist?" "What's that?" "Someone who doesn't believe in God, like your dad." "No, not that..."

Kele's blog is interesting and so is his story about how he came to his current position. It's certainly worth reading the rest of it and exploring the rest of his site a bit more.
