Wicca Cited in Teens’ Suicide

Saturday September 4, 2004
Two 13-year-old girls in Indiana committed suicide recently and, for some reason, authorities seem to be treating Wicca as a factor. For whatever reason, the Wiccan religion is regarded as an evil influence on young people in some places where authorities and parents are ignorant about nearly everything outside their own religious world.

The Post-Tribune reports:

Knox Community Schools Assistant Superintendent Steve Sailor said Monday evening, ‘ The girls did take their own lives, and it appears that some of the decision-making involved wicca and, to some degree, witchcraft. ... Although police are not specifying what avenues they are researching in seeking answers to why two young teens would be willing to die in such a manner, apparently they are attempting to contact others who might have knowledge about the two teens, and it is not known if there are others who might have been members of a wiccan group along with the two girls.

Notice how the reporter spells Wicca with a lowercase w, not even understanding that it is a proper name. What on earth are police thinking to come to the conclusion that witchcraft is involved?

Naturally, World Net Daily has to get in on the act:

Authorities in Indiana believe witchcraft played a role in the double suicide of two 13-year-old girls who intentionally walked into the path of an oncoming train. ... According to WNDU-TV in South Bend, Ind., sources indicate the girls allegedly left a note saying they killed themselves because they believed they would be reincarnated.
Brian Casey, Sarah's father, told the Tribune he wasn't aware his daughter had ever been interested in Wicca, an earth-based pagan religion. "I found nothing of that nature," he said. "Nothing in Sarah's room. Nothing on her computer."

Obviously if parents don’t see obvious signs of Wiccan influence they have to be even more diligent in protecting their kids from the evils of witchcraft!

After reading that article I am shocked to hear the people blame Wicca for the suicide of those girls. How could those authorities know? Maybe those girls were depressed or something and tried to find themselves. Still those ignorent zelots want to find someone to blame because they didn’t find the signs of suicide or find an excuse for that tragedy

Wicca was NOT the cause of this suicide.

“An ye harm none, do as ye will”

The first rule of Wicca. This rule includes YOURSELF. If these girls were TRUE Wiccans, they would know this rule.

Wicca brought me back to life. It’s NEVER the other way around. Ignorance is a bane of life. May knowledge on this subject come swiftly to all.

I was sucidal a on and off since I was 11 (am almost 19 now). I had alot of people bully me, tease me and even my teachers did not listen. They never said or did anything even with visible cuts and bruises. I had anger problems too, I would get into fights and steal from those whom upset me.

When I was 17 I discovered Wicca. I read the Wiccan rede,

“and if it harm none do thy will”

I just knew Wicca was for me. I have not stolen or gotten in a fight since. I have been alot happier and at peace. I have not considered suicide for at least 2 years. I know I have a good life and I am better off now.

That is ridiculous! Wicca is about love not about depression. If the two 13 year olds really knew about Wicca they would know the rules and would never even think about suicide. If the police want to blame Wicca they need to read up on it themselves! This angers and saddens me deeply both for the 13 year olds and the ignorance of people in general.

This is a giant chunk of failure. Even if they did do themselves because of a belief of reincarnation, that doesn’t at all give them the right to blame a whole religion. Bigotry, at best. Ignorant, intolerant Bigotry.
