Christians Cannot Vote for Kerry?

Tuesday August 10, 2004
It's always both a little amusing and a little sad to read conservative Christians assume that their Christianity is the only kind that can legitimately exist. You can see it very prominently in political writings whenever they insist that "real" Christians would never vote for John Kerry because Bush is the only "real" Christian candidate.

In a letter to the Bucyrus Telegraph-Forum, Janell Croneis writes:

Liberals are already pushing their agenda to get any mention of God erased from public life. If elected, leaders like John Kerry and John Edwards will work to appoint liberal supreme court justices who will continue to make decisions for our country based on worldly values and not Christian values.

Sounds like “Christian” values (as defined by Croneis) are the only kind that should be behind our laws and policies. If you aren’t the same sort of “Christian” that Croneis is, I guess that’s just too bad. This, of course, is what allows theocracies to be created.

Look what has happened already in Alabama when liberal judges forced Justice Roy Moore, a Christian, godly man, out of an elected office just for standing up for his beliefs as a moral leader by displaying the Ten Commandments at the Alabama State Courthouse.

Yes, a judge who believed in a Christian theocracy and who believed in abusing the power of his office in order to use government power to promote his religious beliefs was eventually removed from his position. Janell Croneis doesn’t like this — apparently because she agrees that the government should be in the business of telling people what sort of religious beliefs they should and should not have.

This is just a taste of what will come if we as Christians are not united, and if we don't take a stand now to support leaders who are upright, godly and righteous.

And all those people who opposed Moore? All those people who vote Democrat? They aren’t “real” Christians, it seems.

The economy, jobs, etc., will be our last concern when god brings judgment on the United States for turning away from him. God cannot bless a godless nation.

If Janell Croneis‘ god condemns our nation because we value religious freedom and don’t allow the government to promote or endorse any particular religions, then it’s a vile and nasty being that doesn’t deserve the slightest degree of our respect, much less our groveling worship. Christians should be ashamed of people like Croneis promoting the idea of a god like that.

I think Janell Croneis is right on the money! She nails this one.
