India: Men Held over "Caste Gang-Rape"

Although caste-based discrimination is illegal in India, the government hasn't accomplished much in terms of improving relations between the castes. People of higher castes still think of themselves as superior to everyone else and continue to treat lower castes like inferior human beings. Recently, relatives of a high-caste girl who eloped with a low-caste boy raped the boy's mother and two aunts.

The BBC reports:

A police complaint alleges that a band of about 30 Yadav men raped the boy's mother and two aunts, having first paraded them through the village. ... His community members then allegedly attacked the Dalit boy's house before gang-raping three of his female relatives on Thursday night.

I’ll bet that these same men continue to think of themselves as “superior” to the women they raped; in reality, the demonstrated that on a moral and a social level they are vastly inferior to everyone around them.
