Newdow Receives USD $1 million Libel Award

In July 2002, Austin Miles wrote a column claiming that Michael Newdow said that his daughter suffered “emotional damage“ from having to recite “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance. This, Newdow said, was false and sued Miles for libel - and he won.
According to The Mercury News, Newdow won USD $1 million:
“The guy lies, then accuses me of perjury based on his lies,'' Newdow said in a telephone interview Thursday. “I never talk about my daughter.'' ... The legal battle kicked up a maelstrom of public debate, including a series of articles Miles wrote for an online Christian news service. Newdow said he doesn't expect Miles to pay the judgment, but he said he hopes the ruling will help clear his name.
If Austin Miles has any sense of decency and morality, he will pay the judgment.
