Vows Change for Roman Catholics in Italy

The vows one says when one gets married says something about the nature of the relationship and about the way men and women are regarded in society. It is thus good that the vows Italian Catholics say are being changed from “I take you” to “I receive you.”
Yahoo News reports:
Italian Roman Catholic bishops said on Wednesday they had approved the change to underscore that marriage should not be seen as one person possessing the other but each receiving the other as a gift from God.
I wonder why it has taken so long for such a change to be made?
