I'd like to organize an effort (or get a rough idea how successful an organizing effort would be) to encourage those who support military operations in Iraq to volunteer for service. I figure it makes sense that supporters should volunteer first, since they would be demonstrating the courage of their convictions, which sounds like a good thing. The point here is to try to avoid the coming slave army. If the military gets enough volunteers, they won't have to force unwilling young men and women to go kill Iraqis and stand in the line of fire. If you are too old for the military, or are not a US citizen, don't worry, you are not out of luck. There are several private paramilitary "security" firms operating inside Iraq, taking orders from the US military. It is very likely that they do not have the same age restrictions that the official military does. More likely, they'll hire people based on an eagerness to do the job and some demonstrable skill.
What do you think about this idea - do you suppose that supporters of the military efforts in Iraq will volunteer to help out in some capacity? If you support the invasion and occupation of Iraq, will you volunteer to go over? If not, why not? Read More...
