Bush & Moon: Pushing for Theocracy?

Tuesday March 16, 2004
Reverend Sun Myung Moon is one of the most powerful leaders of the Religious Right you don't hear much about. Even when you do hear his name, it is unusual to hear anything about his theocratic agenda - something he works to advance through his influence on politicians and the media he owns, like The Washington Times.

The St. Petersburg Times published an editorial in 2001 quoted Moon:

"You must realize that America has become the kingdom of Satan. Americans who continue to maintain their privacy and extreme individualism are foolish people. The world will reject Americans who continue to be so foolish. Once you have this great power of love, which is big enough to swallow entire America, there may be some individuals who complain inside your stomach. However, they will be digested."
"We must have an autocratic theocracy to rule the world. So we cannot separate the political field from the religious. My dream is to organize a Christian political party including the Protestant denominations, Catholic and all religious sects. We can embrace the religious world in one arm and the political world in the other."

Then they quoted former President George H.W. Bush:

"I want to salute Reverend Moon. He's the man with the vision."

I wonder what the current President Bush thinks about Moon? I wonder if George W. Bush agrees with his father's assessment - and agrees with Moon's vision for the future of America and the world. That would be a curious situation, since Moon thinks that he is Jesus Christ reincarnated and when Bush said that Jesus was his favorite philosopher, I rather doubt that he had Sun Myung Moon in mind.
