Baptists Approve of Gay-Friendly Association

Southern Baptists are commonly seen as opponents of social progress in America, for example working within their own ranks to make sure that women do not become pastors. They are not, however, the only group of Baptists in America. Recently, the American Baptist Churches in the U.S.A. approved the founding of a regional association designed for gay-friendly churches.

Named the Evergreen Baptist Association, it will incorporate a number of progressive churches that have felt unwelcome in other Baptist associations which take a more conservative stance when it comes to sexuality generally and homosexuality in particular.

The growth of gay-friendly churches and religious associations may, over time, have a positive impact upon America's religious culture by showing that a person be religious and be a Christian even while affirming the value of gay relationships.
