Great Christmas War

Christian Nationalists who promote the so-called War on Christmas aren't content with having references to Christmas everywhere. Instead, they also want their version of Christmas and their Christian beliefs to be given a special place of prominence over all other holidays during the season. If stores don't make Christians special and favored, these Christians won't spend their money in that store. Merely being equal is inadequate for their fragile egos.

Christmas is a completely secular holiday, it’s about consumerism, and almost nothing else. As a lifelong athiest, I absolutely adore Christmas, mostly because it reminds me of how desperate Christianity was to be adopted that it had to change the date of it’s prophet’s birthday celebration to coincide with ancient winter feasting dates in order to get anyone to even pretend to adopt it. Let’s hear it for the pagans. :)

Make no mistake about it, the Christian nationalist’s are not too fond of the first amendment and article 6 of the US constitution either!

I must agree with RationalSoul. I was raised in a strongly atheist and anti-theist house and we celebrated Christmas with gusto. It took me until I converted to Judaism myself to understand why my Jewish friends didn’t celebrate it, because in my family we saw it as a capitalist, consumerist, American holiday. Christmas doesn’t have to only be for Christians.

That said, the whole “War on Christmas” thing is total BS. As a Jew, I do not care if salespeople say “Merry Christmas” to me- I say it right back, because while I don’t celebrate Christmas anymore, I DO want those who do to have a “merry” one. It may be annoying to have Christmas shoved down our throats for two months, but not a single one of my Jewish friends actually give a flip about any of the stuff Christians complain is being attacked. No one tells us “Happy Rosh Hashanah” when we go shopping, so it’s not like we expect them to start saying “Happy Holidays” in December instead of “Merry Christmas”

The “War on Christmas” is the biggest load of crap ever. The only people who get offended about holidays in December is Christians and they are just projecting that self-righteous indignance onto the rest of us.
