Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee has openly advocated amending the U.S. Constitution to transform it from a secular document designed to create a secular, civil government into a religious document designed to reflect "God's standards." This the explicit goal of Christian Reconstructionists, the most extreme among right-wing Christian Nationalists, but all adherents of Christian Nationalism support the general goal which Mike Huckabee is pursuing. This places Mike Huckabee firmly in the camp of theocrats who do not want to live under a secular government or secular laws. This places everyone else in America in jeopardy.

A (”Black Friday”) post-Thanksgiving thanks, Austin, for the reminder of just HOW dangerous and delusional Huckabee is; like that other rather popular religious whacko, longing for Armageddon…Palin…and even Romney.
[I'm often reminded of HIS 'fundie-style' belief shtick when I see those 'little Tykes' who supposedly already "know God", as infants, that pop up, regularly, in the Mormon (Moron?) ads at the upper right of this Site's page. Oy Vey? ;) ]

How quickly the general public, and even the News media, forget…or conveniently gloss over…things like the substance of this article; and just HOW dangerous many of the likely 2012 presidential candidates are to this, already threatened and somewhat fragile, “Secular democracy”. In my opinion, there’s a somewhat unspoken media policy to avoid even mentioning the more extreme religious beliefs of way too many of our government officials. Some, albeit limited, notice ’squeaks in’ with more Liberal commentators like Keith Olbermann, and Rachel Maddow; but even THEY don’t come close to addressing, let alone ‘hammering away’ on, how delusional ALL religion is in general. Not surprising, since the overwhelming majority of media commentators are themselves believers of one sort or another; making them, also, at least mildly religiously delusional.
How many times, in comments, does one hear the “Thank God…”, “Our thoughts and prayers…”, “God only knows”, “God forbid…” zama, zama? Yeah…when did any imaginary god ever totally FORBID anything; like even ONE of the mind-boggling number of diseases, earthquakes, tsunamis, etcetera, etcetera?

I think our ‘work’, as “out of the closet” atheists, is definitely cut out for us in the next few years. IOW, it’s no longer a viable option regarding that old “just sit down and STFU!” baloney. Indeed, we atheists may be the only true “Salvation” (pardon the reference?) for the already longtime threatened American form of SECULAR Democracy.

Perhaps, due to the obvious short attention span of much of the American public, this ever more relevant YouTube video needs to be posted more broadly, and a bit more often…

^ Pardon my addendum?…
RE that Kennedy YouTube, I picked that version for its brevity; but regret that there happened to be some totally unnecessary, distracting, and, IMO, rather dumb guitar “music” mixed in with JFK’s speech.
[Like, WHY do people insist on doing that? Aargh!]
In retrospect, I should have posted the full speech link; which, I think, really contains quite a bit of other relevant issues to today’s Political ‘atmosphere’. Also, I suggest checking the after speech Q&A videos (a 2 parter). Actually, I don’t remember ever seeing a broadcast of the entire ‘episode’, back in the day.

ChuckA: I remember When J K made that speech. I don’t recall there being guitar music as he was speaking. Now, me, the worlds greatest guitar picker wants to know what your beef is with guitar music? But, it maybe that our country might coming back to it’s senses. Thank the lord! :D Here is a utube clip of our current president.

Your frequent kidding is always appreciated by another lifetime addicted kidder (me); and pardon my explanatory blabbing on…
I’m a semi-retired Professional singer/multi-instrumentalist performer and longtime off and on private teacher; guitar being one of the, mostly self-taught, instruments that I’ve played (and taught) the longest. (I was also a BA Music major at De Paul U.)
Actually, I have absolutely nothing against guitar…when played competently, and…erm…”musically”. I’ve played guitar, beginning in ca. 1958. In this particular instance, it’s the totally unnecessary, a bit too loud, overdubbing “mix” of what I consider rather mediocre playing, which actually distracts from one of JFK’s most historic and relevant speeches.
I’ve noticed that similar tendency on other YouTubes, etc…the use/mixing of music which does essentially nothing to add to or enhance the original content. It happens way too often, for my taste. But then again, as a somewhat biased, aging ‘old codger’; silence is becoming MUCH more golden as I approach ever closer to life’s, inevitable, final exit. ;)

As to your Huckabee (replace the H with F?) link…
I thought it was the horse’s (that’d be Huck’s, of course) arse.

Is Mike Huckabee actually connected with Christian Reconstructionists in any way? These people are too extreme even for most others on the Christian Right. Surely a presidential candidate would never sully his campaign by associating with this particular batch of wingnuts.
