Superstition is "excessively credulous belief in and reverence for supernatural beings" and an "unjustified belief in supernatural causation." From the perspective of nonbelievers, all Christianity is "superstitious" because none of it is justified. If we take as a given some minimal level of belief in the supernatural, though, some forms of Christianity involve a much more than other forms and are thus arguably more superstitious. Pentecostal Christianity fits readily into this category.

Although some people tend to assume that superstition is harmless, there are also specific dangers here. Reliance on faith healers, for example, means not getting reliable and valid medical attention as soon as is appropriate. Handling snakes obviously carries real risks, especially when children are encouraged to do it.
Is Judaism superstition? Is Islam Superstition? As far as I am concerned, superstition is what brought down the twin towers!

In support of and, perhaps, further to Ron’s comment, we can look at the opportunity cost of superstitious beliefs. Tithe money could build a hospital instead of a church. The flawed counselling of a pastor can never be as useful as the skilled, education counselling of a psychiatrist. The time spent proselytizing would be much better spent educating. Imagine how beautiful a city could be in every Sunday was spent tending a garden instead of praying for the next world.

Any investment of time and money has a direct cost then an opportunity cost.

Now I ask you, my fellow atheists…
Just how close are we…considering all that batsh*t, and even the more “normal, everyday, batsh*t” irrational beliefs of so many American politicians…to becoming a (totally batsh*t) Christian Theocracy?

Add all the insane crap from the 2008 Election to the 2012 Election, PLUS the “December 21st, 2012″, ‘End of the World’, Armageddon-like, Conspiracy theories, and I’d say (like the old famous Bette Davis line?):
“Strap yourselves in, folks, we’re in for a VERY bumpy (and extremely batsh*t?) ride!”

What’s that?…
“Yes, ChuckA…but…exactly WHAT do we strap ourselves ‘in’ to?
[Me (speaking in tongues)]: “Ummm…Scaramombarayadaleedroomombahoolyadora ma!”
Angelic (demonic trickster?) translation:
“Beats the ‘heil’ out of me!” ;)
[cue Sousa's "Liberty Bell March" (ala Monty Python)?]

Praise Reason for delivering me from Pentecostalism! I am here to testify that I was lost, but now I’m saved! I am here to testify that Austin is spot on when it comes to Pentecostalism, the faith of my parents. Seriously, these people will believe ANYTHING if it fits their prejudices and comes from a fellow Pentecostal. In their minds life is a constant supernatural battle. The Fang people in Africa may be less superstitious than Pentecostals.
