There are many things which can cause atheists to be angry. Some were raised in very religious homes and, over time, they came to discover the things they were taught by family and clergy were all wrong. Some atheists come to view religion or even just theism as being deceptive - and, hence, harmful to society. Still other atheists experience ongoing discrimination because of their disbelief in gods. They have to hide their atheism from family, friends and coworkers.

Ah, another classic misconconception. I’m not angry. Actually I’m almost optimistic to the point of being flawed!
Now, I do GET angry at rampant stupidity, hatred, bigotry, sexism, and that sort of bull. But that has very little to do with being an atheist and more to do with being a good human being. Of course, I think being an atheist HELPS you be a better human being since you don’t have some imaginary skydaddy justifying bigotry, hatred, and all that.
I often wonder if the anger theist tend to attribute to atheist isn’t really frustration mistaken as anger.
So often we see that theist simply ignore reasoned discourse and turn it to something personal. The resulting frustration could be easily mistaken for anger.
This is not to say that atheist’s don’t get angry.

As a gay atheist living in Washington State, you’re damned RIGHT I’m angry. Having my rights trampled on and subject to vote will tend to do that to a person, and justifiably so, I think.
