A few cultures, like ancient Greece, have postulated gods which appear to be as natural as human beings, but in general gods are supernatural. This means that they are fundamentally different from human beings or anything on earth. Despite this, however, theists consistently describe their gods in ways that make the supernatural appear almost mundane. Gods share so many characteristics with humans that it has been argued that gods were made in the image of man.

Any image whatsoever is inevitably an idol - and false.
The anthropomorphism of gods is probably a western thing, piggy-backed from the Greek demi-god (after all, Xianity was born in a Greek world).
Some NRMs, like the Mormons, even go so far as to say that god is a glorified man, and that mankind can become gods (and godesses) if they stick to “the gospel.”
It seems that the further humanity moves through time, the more anthropomorphic god(s) become(s).

Seems like the religious want to be gods themselves. They claim to know the absolute truth, claim immortality and moral superiority. All features of their gods.
My wife says that kind people always seem to worship kind Gods and mean people always seem to worship mean Gods. I believe in Gods, but I have seen nothing to contradict her yet.
