Atheism Basics: Are Atheists All Freethinkers?

A standard dictionary defines a freethinker as “one that forms opinions on the basis of reason independently of authority; especially one who doubts or denies religious dogma.” What this means is that to be a freethinker, a person has to be willing to consider any idea and any possibility. The standard for deciding the truth-value of claims is not tradition, dogma, or authorities — instead, it must be reason and logic.

No, not all atheists are free thinkers.

Communists, raelians, libertarians, scientologists…

I don’t see how theism is compatible with free thought- to be maintained they hace to reject occum’s razor arbitrarily.

Are all atheists freethinkers? Well, put this way: would you call a newborn baby a freethinker?

P.S: Scientology is actually monotheistic, not atheistic. Read the credo if you don’t believe me. It makes several mentions of ‘God’, with a capital ‘G’ to imply that they only believe in the existence of one deity
