Russia's Chief Rabbi: Militant Atheism Causes Genocide

Saturday February 2, 2008
Bigotry against atheists knows no religious or national boundaries. Although we are accustomed to seeing such bigotry from Christians in America, anti-atheist bigotry can be expressed by non-Christians elsewhere as well. Russian Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar, for example, has been preaching hate by trying to get people to believe that "militant atheism" has been responsible for fascism and genocide.
Fascism "was a direct result of atheism that spread throughout Germany and some other countries in the first half of the 20th century," he said, adding that the Nazi performed pagan rites and sent rabbis and Christian clerics to concentration camps.

"Militant atheism inevitably caused extensive repressions and genocide everywhere - in Hitler's Germany, in Lenin's and Stalin's Russia, in Pol Pot's Cambodia and now in Myanmar," Lazar said.

These quotes come from a speech which Berel Lazar delivered on the Holocaust Memorial Day, which is ironic because they are so similar to the hate propaganda used against the Jews in the years preceding the Holocaust. Berel Lazar's words would fit in very easily with anti-Semitic speeches in 1930s Germany with just a few minor alterations so that they reference how "communism was the direct result of Judaism" and "Jews inevitably cause economic woe and cultural destruction wherever they go."

Berel Lazar is thus imitating the hate and bigotry of the same fascists, Nazis, and murderers he is condemning — but whereas they picked Jews as their scapegoats, he's a Jew picking atheists as his scapegoat. In the process, he ignores or denies that most Germans during the Holocaust were Christians, that Christian churches actively helped identify Jews for extermination, that atheist and freethought groups were suppressed by the Nazis, and that communists — who could easily be atheists — were among the first victims of the Nazi regime. The Nazis didn't let facts and reality get in their way, though, so why should Berel Lazar?

A sad day indeed when you see a Jew think like a Nazi. Judaism was so repressed in Russia for so long, and now the Russian Jews are saddled with this idiot for a leader. Also, what was that “children, kitchen, church” prescription for German women that Hitler gave about? Doesn’t sound much like an atheist slogan to me.

So his proof that the Nazi’s were atheists is that they performed pagan rites? Get this guy a dictionary.

Ok, so atheism resulted in the fascist, nationalist government of Germany under Adolph Hitler? Does this rabbi have a few screws loose in his head or something? So I suppose that Hitler was a Catholic who despised Jews thinking they were a menace and German troops wore belt buckles stating “God is with us.” indicates they were atheists? The fact that Hitler was influenced by Mussolini’s Fascist Italy seems to be conveniently left out of this guy’s tirade.

As in ALL religions, I contend…the modus operendi of Dogmatic “Tradition” equals…more often than not…a long, devious, well camouflaged…and mostly undetected by the masses…history of lying.
Which brings to my mind:
