This Date in History: Marcel Lefebvre Consecrated as Bishop

September 18, 1947: Marcel Lefebvre is consecrated as bishop. Lefebvre would break with Rome following the Second Vatican Council and, over the years, consecrated hundreds of priests who agreed with his traditionalist views. This created the first schism in the Roman Catholic Church since 1870.
