This Date in History: Humanae Vitae & Birth Control

July 25, 1968: Pope Paul VI published the encyclical 'Humanae Vitae,' emphasizing the Catholic position on family and condemning all artificial methods of birth control. Paul VI was responsible for continuing with the Second Vatican Council and thereafter implementing its decrees. Ironically, he would never have called that Council himself and did not entirely agree with its reform efforts.
