A forum member writes: I think abortion is wrong for the same reason that killing humans is wrong. I believe that a fetus is human and is entitled to certain basic human rights such as the right to life. I think that is some cases such as when the health of the mother is a stake her life takes priority over the over the fetus in the same sense as it can be morally justified to kill someone to save your own life. Or in the case of rape/incest, the pregnancy was a result of someone else’s choice and entails risks the woman was not willing to take on. Essentially the abortions I have a problem with are the ones where the pregnancy was a reasonable consequence of the woman’s actions. ... There are many circumstances where an action, depending on the circumstance, may or may not be ethically justifiable. Such as if a person steals a loaf of bread. If the person is rich and can afford to buy bread, it’s wrong, but if the person is poor and must feed their family it’s ok.
Most atheists tend to be pro-choice; even if they disapprove of abortion on a personal level, they wouldn’t favor criminalizing it. Some, though, would prefer that abortion be illegal. Are any of the above arguments reasonable? Read More...

You say that abortion would be justifiable in the case of the women not having a choice. You contradict yourself if you believe that an abortion is murder why do you find it acceptable to do in these cases. With that logic your saying that murder is ok. The constitution states the rights to all people born not conceived giving a fetus no rights. And believing that the Government should be able to force a women to go through a pregnancy is almost the same as saying the government should have the power to force sterilization and conception.
