A forum member writes: I think the evidence is abundant that people believe in God because human beings have been adapted by evolution to readily accept God myths, since such beliefs can provide certain psychological benefits, which translate (or did in the past) into survival advantages for believers. It is, IMO, belief itself that is adaptive....whether or not the beliefs correspond to reality is irrelevant.
