Mailbag: Satanic Cults

Friday May 19, 2006

Subject: your articles on satanism and MPD
I was saddened to read your skeptical and unresearched opinions on the validity of satanic cults. In fact, there IS documented evidence that comes in that validates their existence; I would be more than willing to give you references in the law enforcement field. Also, I have my own history as a former cult programmer. Not only are satanic cults real, I used to be a perpetrator in one and they certainly do the things that people are remembering. Perhaps you should research your articles before printing them.

Usually I get messages like this (claims that I don't know what I am talking about and have everything wrong) about Christianity, Islam or religion generally. Nevertheless, while getting such a message about something like Satanic Abuse Cults may be odd, it probably shouldn't be entirely unexpected. Beliefs in such things do mirror religious beliefs rather closely, after all.

Unfortunately for Svali, there isn't really genuine evidence of Satanic Abuse Cults that engage in ritual sexual abuse of children. Fortunately for Svali, if they were actually a "perpetrator" in such a group as they claim, they'd probably be in jail instead surfing the web and criticizing the sites of skeptics.

As a matter of fact I do research my articles before uploading, often very extensively. I may not always get to do as much research as I would like, but eventually you have to stop and actually publish something, otherwise no one would ever benefit. The fact that my conclusions disagree sharply with those of the True Believers doesn't mean that I haven't performed any research - it just means that I don't believe the wild, unsupported tales spread by believers.
