The Christian Right is very powerful and influential in American politics and society, such that everyone is familiar with the movement. Not everyone is familiar with the Christian Right's deep fundamentalist roots, however, People may have heard the term fundamentalism, but people don't know much about how American fundamentalism got started, how it developed during the early years, and how fundamentalism continues to shape American religion and politics.
