Discussion: Consequences of Alternative Fuels

A forum member writes: With all of that oil under the volatile middle East... what do you think would happen if tomorrow, the powers that be said "Hey, we are announcing a new invention tomorrow that will revolutionize the energy industry. We don't need oil (or any fossil fuel) any more." So, what do you think would happen? What are those countries going to do without oil? Do you think alternative fuels are being suppressed due to the potential (bad) impact an alternative fuel would have on global politics?

This is an interesting question - what would the political consequences be of ending our reliance on oil? That is, after all, just about the only source of income for many nations in the Middle East. Without oil revenues, where would they be? Economies would collapse and civil wars might result. Read More...
