Discussion: Sense of Entitlement

A forum member writes: I was wondering if people encounter those with an attitude that they are entitled to a continued lifestyle of financial comfort. The trouble with us I believe in the good times when the economy appears to be going full steam ahead like it did so long ago is that families feel free to purchase new vehicles, new furniture all on credit which is borrowing against future earnings. Here is where the problem lies. A national disaster like 911 tanks various local economies as well as the national to a point and we got numerous families suddenly without an income. You see them writing everyday on various delphi/about.com forums about how they cannot pay the mortgage on their place and their SUV payments. Are these people willing to downscale and take a job in another state or industry? Nope. Instead they whine about how they want the lifestyle they are used to having. Of course it would be nice to have shiny new truck instead of the van I am driving but lack of car payments is something I won't give up until I have to.
Is it true that people should be satisfied with a "smaller" lifestyle? Is it just whining to complain about how one's life is rougher than it used to be? Read More...
