Ann Coulter No Fan of First Amendment, Republicans Cheer
The Independent Florida Alligator reports on a speech she gave for Republicans in Florida:
She also criticized the media for being liberal and Democrats for whining about their rights under the First Amendment.
"They're always accusing us of repressing their speech," she said. "I say let's do it. Let's repress them."
She later added, "Frankly, I'm not a big fan of the First Amendment."
Her statements received applause, and many attendees said they enjoyed her speech, but some added that they think she's somewhat extreme.
"She's not very subtle, but I always enjoy her talks," Republican Senate candidate Travis Horn said. "They're very hard hitting, but the truth hurts."
I'm guessing that Ann Coulter only disagrees with free speech when it protects others, not when it protects her? Or maybe she only disagrees with "free" speech because she wants to be paid so much for spouting nonsense — she was evidently paid USD $30,000 for this little diatribe.
Either way, it's instructive that even Republicans who think she is "extreme" also think that she is telling the "truth" when she says that liberal speech should be repressed and that there is something wrong with the free speech protections of the First Amendment.
Republicans and conservatives should be profoundly embarrassed that someone who openly denigrates the freedom of speech can get such a positive reception and earn so much money while doing so.

I read an Ann Coulter book- didn’t like it much, wasn’t deep enough for me, didn’t dig deep enough into the issues.
As for free speech- of course keep it free and flowing- for progress is not made by shutting people up, but by deliberating the challenges they present… if you shut a smart-aleck child up, the smart-aleck child will only learn when to shut up, and not much more…
The worse thing one can do (and Republicans are all too guilty of this, to the point of my calling them the “Witless Wonders of the White House” when they get in) is to deem a challenge beneath one, and not worth of a response, the answer’s reasoning being so obvious…
