Pornography, Sex, and Feminism
Recently Received: Pornography, Sex, and Feminism, by Alan Soble. Publisher: Prometheus Books.
Pornography is opposed by people on both the left and the right. Radical feminists join up with religious zealots in an effort to ban, or at least repress, pornography in all its forms. Their arguments differ to some extent, but they agree on the basic principle that pornography is harmful to both men and women and, therefore, doesn’t deserve any sort of legal protections. Are their arguments justified, though? Is there any basis for anti-pornography crusades, or are they simply expressions of traditional, paternalistic attitudes towards women and sexuality?
