Racism, discrimination, segregation, and even slavery are some of the biggest social problems in American history. What many tend to forget, however, is the degree of complicity which Christian churches have in all of this. People remember that Christians founded abolition movements and marched in support of Civil Rights, but they forget that Christians also promoted slavery and segregation as fulfillments of the will of God. Prejudice and discrimination are part of the legacy of American Christianity, a legacy which has yet to be overcome — just witness the extent of segregation in American churches. Will Christians do anything about this?
