Mycenae Burial Circle Human habitation at Mycenae probably dates back as far as 5000 BCE, but the main citadel and large walls were constructed around 1500 BCE. The city itself was probably at its height of power between 1500 and 1200 BCE, around which time at least one large fire ravaged the citadel. After this, Mycenaean power began to decline and it eventually fell into obscurity, disappearing entirely when Argos destroyed Mycenae in 468 BCE because the city wasn't rebuilt. For the purposes of comparison, many scholars would date Israelite king David to around 1000 BCE. Image Gallery of Ancient Mycenae, Greece...
