Harassing Atheists

By August 11, 2005

Follow me on:

The hatred that some conservative Christians have for atheists is really astounding. Imagine how insecure a person must be in their beliefs and their religion that they would experience such extreme emotional reactions to others who question, challenge, and reject those beliefs.

Frank Walton hates atheists so much that he has a blog named Atheism Sucks and encourages people to harass atheists:

[W]henever we get junk email we do Babinski the pleasure of forwarding it to him. As a matter of fact, readers, if you ever feel like using Babinski’s email for whatever reason (use it for spam; or send him Bible verses - one verse at a time, one day at a time; or send him an article about whatever topic; or send him an email with nothing in it, etc.); you can go ahead and use it...

This “full-time student” has way too much free time on his hands if he finds it productive or amusing to forward junk email to someone out of some petty fit of spite and revenge. He certainly isn’t contributing to any serious discussion about the nature of atheism and if his efforts achieve anything, it’s likely to cause people to think less of Christians and Christianity.

I agree, what Frank is doing is shameful. Where did Jesus teach we should go around telling nonbelievers they suck? That we should laugh at their expense? Who cares if this article didn’t get all the facts correct, the overall blog is spiteful and hateful. How can you say, Frank, you love atheist, while posting such awful things about them and their beliefs on your site? When Jesus said to love your enemies…how did that process for you to even making a website harassing them? What exactly went wrong in your thought process here? All Jesus said for us to do is preach the gospel…if its rejected, you move on, shaking the dust from your feet. You don’t blast them for rejecting it! Leave the judging up to God. 1 Corinthians 5:12It isn’t my responsibility to judge outsiders, but it certainly is your job to judge those inside the church who are sinning in these ways. 13God will judge those on the outside.

All you are doing is causing them to hate us for being obnoxious and bullies! Not hating us for following Jesus..BIG difference! Did Paul go around bad mouthing unbelievers? Did he not talk to them respectfully? Yes he did. He was thrown in prison NOT for being rude, mean spirited, nor hateful towards them, but for simply teaching about Jesus. I don’t see that happening on here.

This kind of stuff makes me NOT want to call myself a Christian, but something to show what I truly am. A follower of Christ. People like you make the word, “Christian”, to mean hate! Not love! Which is what we are suppose to represent. I suggest you re-read the gospels again. The ONLY ones Jesus ever rebuked, ever got after, were the religious leaders of His time…those that claimed to know and love God. He never blasted, bad mouthed nor put down, nonbelievers. In fact, He forgave them for nailing Him to the cross! Where is your forgiveness and mercy here?

Julie, you’ve accidentally hit one of atheism’s nails on the head. The bible justifies your stance and his. It justifies capital punishment and mercy. It can justify what ever you like if you cherry pick the scriptures that support you. So which is it? Non-believers should should either be burned at the stake or be shown mercy? You might say that Frank is not a true xian, and he’d say the same of you for defending us heretics. A rational mind can step back and realize that maybe a book written so long ago and so edited and revised and so contradictory is not a useful source of information or guidance, that it might be more useful to think for ourselves here and now.

Consider Hindus for a moment. Do you believe in all of their gods? They don’t believe in yours either. Only one religion could possibly be right. OR they could all be wrong. It’s the height of arrogance to assume your religion is right, or that your interpretation of xianity is right. You might be right, but there is just as much evidence that the Hindus got it right.

i appreciate your sentiments, i wish more xians felt that way.

If it’s harrassment when theists do it to atheists, is it called something else when atheists do it to theist?

December 19, 2007 at 1:14 am

I find it hilariously ironic that an atheist is complaining about being “harassed” by theists, when atheists have been doing this same exact thing for decades, and they’ve been doing far worse. Was it harassment when Ferrile Till posted J.P. Holding’s address, as well as his wife’s work address, among other personal information, on his web site for the whole world to see? No, because Ferrile is an atheist, and they are exempt from the rules made up by other atheists in their little fairyland.

As for Atheism Sucks!, to say that it is harassment is simply another way for the atheists to ignore their arguments in favor of a mindless delusion that they follow for the pure sake of non-conformity.

Why do theists say such mean things about atheists? Because we’re sick and tired of your bullcrap. We’re sick of you preaching your fantasies and yet pretending that you do no such thing, that your belief system is equivalent to science, and that nearly six billion people are flat-out wrong in what matters to them more than anything else “Because I say so!”

We are sick of you redefining science to pretend that you are somehow rational, and we are sick of you redefining your brainless garbage so you can avoid your burdon of proof. We are tired of you spouting that there is no proof of God, when proof has been offered up for centuries, if not millenia. We are sick of you distorting history, stating that Jesus never existed, even though the questioning of His existence is the historical equivalent to questioning the age of the Earth, and your pretending that religion has caused all these wars and violence and garbage, when more than 93 percent of all violence in history was caused by your precious secularism/humanism. We are tired of you pretending that evolution disproves the Bible.

We are tired of your worn-out, self-contradictory naturalism. We are tired of your propoganda by low-lifes like Hitchens and Dawkins.

We are tired of you, and that is why theists are becoming more hostile. Consider it an evolutionary advantage: When a new animal begins to invade another’s territory, the original inhabitants must fight back.

I find it hilariously ironic that an atheist is complaining about being “harassed” by theists, when atheists have been doing this same exact thing for decades, and they’ve been doing far worse.

Would you care to provide evidence and examples? A single allegation is not “atheists” doing “far worse” for “decades.” I’d like to see substantial evidence that atheists have not only been “doing far worse” for decades, but also that theists have not been harassing atheists for… well, for centuries.

As for Atheism Sucks!, to say that it is harassment is simply another way for the atheists to ignore their arguments in favor of a mindless delusion that they follow for the pure sake of non-conformity.

1. Who said that the entire site is “harassment”?

2. What delusion do all atheists follow?

Why do theists say such mean things about atheists? Because we’re sick and tired of your bullcrap. We’re sick of you preaching your fantasies and yet pretending that you do no such thing

But millennia of Christians preach is OK?

, that your belief system is equivalent to science,

What “belief system” do all atheists hold?

and that nearly six billion people are flat-out wrong in what matters to them more than anything else “Because I say so!”

So, “nearly six billion people” can’t be wrong?

We are sick of you redefining science to pretend that you are somehow rational

Evidence and examples, please?

and we are sick of you redefining your brainless garbage so you can avoid your burdon of proof.

What burden would that be?

We are tired of you spouting that there is no proof of God, when proof has been offered up for centuries, if not millenia.

Would that be proof of Apollo you’re talking about, or Odin?

We are sick of you distorting history, stating that Jesus never existed, even though the questioning of His existence is the historical equivalent to questioning the age of the Earth,

1. Some atheists say Jesus didn’t exist and some don’t.

2. Please demonstrate that questioning the existence of Jesus is the same as questioning the age of the Earth.

3. So, what do you really think of Young Earth Creationists?

and your pretending that religion has caused all these wars and violence and garbage, when more than 93 percent of all violence in history was caused by your precious secularism/humanism.

More than 93%? That’s a pretty precise number. It’s so precise, in fact, that I think you should be expected to provide clear proof of it.

We are tired of you pretending that evolution disproves the Bible.

Who, exactly, has said that evolution disproves the entire Bible?

We are tired of your worn-out, self-contradictory naturalism.

Feel free to demonstration how naturalism is self-contradictory.

We are tired of you, and that is why theists are becoming more hostile.

Sorry, but I don’t see theists becoming more hostile — they appear to be as hostile as ever. Since you believe that theists are more hostile now, please provide evidence that they used to be less hostile.

Consider it an evolutionary advantage: When a new animal begins to invade another’s territory, the original inhabitants must fight back.

So, Christians who deny evolution are wrong?

Austin covered most of the laughable lies in “L”s post, but a few require elaboration.

Does “L” think there are 6 billion Christians in the world (there aren’t), or 6 billion monotheists in the world (there aren’t)? Isn’t his “authority from numbers” fallacy going to be discredited when he agrees with me that a billion Muslims are all incorrect?

Does “L” think that ‘when I die, my life ends’ is honestly something that atheists fantasise about? LOL!

So many laughs, so little print.

August 22, 2008 at 3:23 pm

L seems to know enough to just be an eloquent crook. Nothing he says is remotely based on fact or actually any ideas.

August 22, 2008 at 3:50 pm
Paul(9)

John, I don’t see any eloquence in L’s post. It is a mere rant, though the kind of rant that can move an ignorant mob to take up ax handles and beat an innocent bystander to death – or oyster shells and tear and old lady to bits, as in the case of St. Cyril, if you prefer a more historical example.

There are a lot of sad misconceptions/lies in this one. The 93% of all violence caused by secular humanism is doubtless the fugliest of them all. It is based on the assumption that the Second World War was the most costly (in terms of lives) event in all of human history, and that it was brought about by atheists. Both are completely wrong. World War 2 was largely the product of the Hitler regime in Germany, which was very closely associated with the Lutheran church in that nation and justified their murders not in the name of any form of humanism (or even socialism, as so many political conservatives in the US contend), but in the name of God. Somehow people seem to miss the fact the primary scapegoat for the economic hardships of Germany were members of a despised religious group, many of whom had been patriotic citizens and served on their side in the previous war. Stalin, who was not a humanist at all, merely a power-hungry and paranoid person, was simply not interested in gods of any kind, rather than being a real atheist. The saddest part of this lie, however, is that it assumes that this one war, because it is a part of Western history, must be the biggest killer in history. In fact, the war that caused the most deaths in recorded history happened in China in the century before (The Taiping Rebellion, which lasted 40 years).
But an even deeper sin than that of ethnocentrism is the assumption that big wars like these are the real killers. Any good demographer could tell you that interpersonal violence kills a lot more people than even the biggest wars. Hell, traffic accidents account for more carnage these days. However, a whole lot of the interpersonal violence that plagues the world is probably a direct result religion, mainly a result of rigid gender categories (think of all the boys fighting over their ‘manliness’) and obsession with sexuality, which creates unnecessary sexual jealousies that often lead to violence and death.
It is less the big, newsworthy events that make us what we are than it is the day-to-day ways that we deal with each other and our own conflicts.

WOW going to that site of Franks made my eyes bleed and my IQ went down 40 points! (for a minute) I back now wooo.
What a hypocrite and numbskull, the fundies can have him. He has no idea what atheism is or means. The only thing he can prove is that even idiots can have web sites.

Following this “discussion” I am reinded of Martin Niemoeller’s poem: First they came…., ignore them and there will be no one to listen, like a soap-box orator in Hyde Park without audience. Argument over.

Replying to Todd:
Julie is showing examples of following Christ. Christ never punished, he forgave! Julie is not cherry-picking bible support, she is following Christ and Christ alone, thats the idea of being a Christian! ( ;
She is showing that this athiest harraser is going against everything Jesus said, he is not forgiving, hes not even punsishing (which by the way Christ never did) he is just doing this because he bored or needs some one to bully, possibly because he is being bullied himself. It could even be that he has some mental issues. : (

As for a reply for ”L”, thesists should never become more hostile! Sinvce when did Christ become hostile to ANYONE? Even when they nailed him to a cross!Show a little respect for the man who died for you and try to live like him. How do you think Christ feels when you say those kinds of things to other people? Even if they are atheists, he loves them all and shares in thier pain.
