Florida: Gay Couple's Home Torched in Arson Attack

Friday August 5, 2005
In Orlando, two men had their mobile home burned down - and this was just the latest in a long-running problem with verbal abuse and threats from people in the area. It appears that because the men were a gay couple, it was considered acceptable for Christians to harass, threaten, and finally attack them.

365Gay.com reports:

Police say that a number of items appear to have been stolen from the home. An arson investigation is underway and a spokesperson for the Lakeland Fire Department said it appears the fire had been set in several areas of the trailer.

But, neighbors at the Kings Manor Mobile Home Park where the units sit side by side in rows claim they saw nothing.

Oh, I'll bet they saw nothing. Just like good white Christians once saw nothing when blacks were attacked and even lynched in the South. When a minority is despised enough, Christian morals that ostensibly prohibit physical violence against one's "neighbor" cease to apply — and many Christians become blind and deaf alongside sociopathic and vicious. It's a truly amazing process that ought to be studied more closely.

Update: later reporting indicates that one of the two men may be responsible for the arson. According to Insurance Journal, one of them was arrested and charged with the arson and with filing false reports. Police say the second man had nothing to do with it, so the reports of regular harassment from neighbors may still be accurate.
