Lou Dobbs Makes Up 'Facts' About Evolution

Saturday May 14, 2005
Lou Dobbs is a news host for CNN who focuses on monetary and economic issues. Lou Dobbs may be competent in his areas of specialization, but he doesn't know much about science - and he certainly doesn't know anything about evolution. He proved that recently on his own show and he doesn't even have the sense to be embarrassed about it.

Media Matters quotes from the May 12 edition of Lou Dobbs Tonight when he interviewed Michael Ruse:

DOBBS: The fact is that evolution, Darwinism, is not a fully explained or completely rigorous and defined science that has testable results within it. Like a --

RUSE: Now, who says that? Is that you?

DOBBS: I do. I do.

[...]

DOBBS: And, in that degree, if one moves aside from the issue and suggests that creationism be taught within a religious class, within the schools, and one looks at the prospect of intelligent design and evolution, with critical thought -- because you say life was 4-and-a-half billion years ago, the planet began 4-and-a-half billion years ago -- we continue to change our views scientifically on when what occurred, that is, in terms of missing links within the family tree of life on this planet. Is there anything wrong with criticizing evolution in your minds?

So, Lou Dobbs says that evolution is not science? When did Lou Dobbs get a degree in biology?

Lou Dobbs doesn't have any idea what he is talking about. Evolution is every bit as scientific as gravity and people who understand science realize this. So why is Lou Dobbs spreading misinformation on CNN? Isn't there anyone at CNN with enough intelligence to maintain basic factual standards among the hosts they employ?
