For many, the cover-ups of priests who sexually abused young boys was worse than the acts of abuse themselves. People have wondered how a Christian institution could hide such evil and allow the perpetrators to go unpunished. People have also wondered just how high up the chain of the Catholic hierarchy the responsibility for all of this might go. Does it end with local bishops or does it extend all of the way to the Vatican?
