Recently Received: Religious Schools v. Children's Rights, by James G. Dwyer. Publisher: Cornell University Press.
Religious schools are very popular in America. Devout parents see them as an effective means for combining both academics and religion in a manner that preserves both — but are they, in fact, both preserved? James G. Dwyer argues that they aren't and that academic, intellectual values are too frequently sacrificed on the altar of religious orthodoxy. The consequence is an ill-educated generation whose rights to decent schooling have been unfairly taken away from it. Religious liberty, according to Dwyer, should not be used as an excuse not to treat children as equal persons.
