Falwell's right. Gay republicans should get the hell out. So should fiscal conservatives. After all, anti-gay amendments were just threatened, unheard-of fiscal profligacy has become reality. And National Greatness conservatives should leave too; the Bush Administration's incompetence in Iraq has made us look decidedly weak, emboldening every two-bit dictator who, five years ago, would have been held in check by the threat of our unknown, unimaginable and unstoppable power. Also, libertarians should get the hell out, for obvious reasons. So should moderate Republicans, that weird feeling they get every time Bush opens his mouth and deuteronomy-disguised-as-legislation flows forth is telling them to exit stage now.
I know that many Republicans who are concerned — or even disgusted — with the direction their party has taken don't want to leave and can understand that. They may, however, be focusing too much on what the GOP was in the past and the ideals they have about it rather than what it currently is and is doing. If they aren't going to leave, it should go without saying that they need to fix and/or improve it. Unfortunately, just how they are going to go about doing that does seem to have gone without being said.
