Nationalism and Hatred

According to tradition, European nationalism developed out of the European enlightenment and, hence, is a positive aspect of western history. But what if this were not really true? It is arguable that nationalism was developed through the incitement of ethnic and religious divisions which, in turn, are responsible for much of the hatred and violence we encounter today.
