Serbian Education Minister Quits
The BBC reports:
An official statement said Ljiljana Colic was stepping down because of "problems that had started to reflect on the work of the entire government". Mrs Colic had said Darwin's theory was no more legitimate than the idea that God created all creatures in the world. ... Later media reports said she had argued against compulsory teaching of foreign languages and computing.
I wonder: was it her idea that she should step down or something that her bosses urged her to do? I would tend to guess the latter. She caused a storm of protest and dissent that made the whole government look very bad, something that they certainly don't need. She wasn't even the one who announced the reversal — that had to be done by a subordinate who was obviously unhappy and uncomfortable about the whole thing.
