O'Reilly: Scolds Guest for Out Gays, Labels Judge a "Lesbian"

Friday July 23, 2004
For Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly, the operative principle seems to be "do as I say, not as I do." Usually that principle is shortened to just "hypocrisy." O'Reilly had the nerve to castigate a guest over outing the staff of Republican lawmakers working against gay marriage, then accuse a Massachusetts judge of being a lesbian.

The Chicago Tribune reports:

O'Reilly chastised guest Michael Rogers for maintaining a Web site publicizing the names of gay staffers working for politicians who oppose gay marriage. "We're uneasy with this kind of exposition," O'Reilly said. "Somebody's personal sex life should have nothing to do with any kind of a policy."
But on the same show--and for at least the third time in the last year--O'Reilly described one of the justices on the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court as a lesbian, a claim that the justice herself, through a spokeswoman, denies. ... A Fox spokesman said O'Reilly stands by his claim, which is based on "more than one independent source."

Whether O’Reilly is correct or not, he seems to believe that he is right and that means that he is a hypocrite. He thinks he is “outing” someone because he doesn’t like what they have done, but he gets mad when someone else does the same thing. The only common factor is partisan politics. Why does Bill O’Reilly continue to pretend that he is in any way connected to honest journalism? He’s a political hack and a shill for far-right religious conservatives.
