Adult Novelties Ruled Obscene

Monday April 19, 2004
Government is continuing its crackdown on obscenity and pornography - not just videos and movies, but also novelty items. The Lion’s Den Adult Superstore northwest of Abilene, Texas, has apparently been indicted for selling obscenities after a grand jury deemed 29 items obscene.

AVN explains:

A grand jury was impaneled last fall after Citizens for Strengthening Community Virtues (CFSCV), supervised by the American Family Association (AFA), gathered enough voter signatures to force a summons. As reported by AVN.com last month, upon receiving the complaint in November, the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office spent $1,332.71 from the county’s diversion fund to purchase 36 items... Each of the 29 counts alleges that from Oct. 28, 2003, and continuing to the present day, the store “knowingly, recklessly and unlawfully is engaged in promoting obscenity.…” The promotion of obscenity – which, under Kansas law includes the sale and promotion of adult novelties – is a Class A misdemeanor on the first offense according to Kansas Statutes, punishable by a fine of up to $2,500 and/or up to one year in jail.
That means the 29 counts could translate into 29 years in jail and/or fines of up to $72,500 if the owners are convicted on all counts. ... “The grand jury’s indictment here may lead to other obscenity cases being filed across the state,” Dickinson County Attorney Kristie Hildebrand told the Reflector-Chronicle. “I have received phone calls from other county attorneys who have been awaiting the result of our grand jury decision here in Dickinson County before they make decisions on how to proceed.”

Oh, this sounds like a very good use of government time and money - who knows what sort of sordid things adults are doing in the privacy of their homes with these "obscene" items. If allowed to continue, this might lead to the downfall of Christian civilization and the end of America as God's Own Country. We can't have that, can we???

Well, that’s a great decision by the government to crackdown obscenity and pornography novels, especially for those who disobey the law by promoting pornography to the public, which is exposed to young people. We should this in private, but I’m not saying that I’m against with this law because I’m also a fan of pornography. What I mean is we should keep this away from young children and be responsible enough for this.

I believe that the government is doing well to stop pornography, especially those who are illegal and not obeying the law. We all know that pornography is only for adult and minors should not have access on this. I agree with the law but I do think adult cant live without pornography. This means that pornographic materials should be kept away from minors.

I’m agree with the government decision, except for the Adult novelties. Adult toys helps a lot of people who have problem with sensual relationship like married couple.I think it’s not a good idea to put it on the list. There’s a lot of stores, online shops or whatever you call it, selling adult novelties professionally and with dignity.
