Government Chooses what the Deaf will Watch

A forum member writes: The federal Department of education gets to choose which programs are suitable enough to receive federal grants for closed caption subtitles, and how the five member board chooses which programs are 'appropriate' for deaf and hard of hearing people to watch is not disclosed, but it looks like there's a serious pattern of bias there.

Is this a form of censorship, or is it a reasonable editorial decision? Some feel that it's part of the authoritarian and paternalistic attitudes developed towards those with disabilities, others think it's part of the puritan tendencies of the Bush administration. What do you think? Read More...
