According to Michael O. Emerson and Christian Smith, the efforts of evangelical Christians to end racism and racial discrimination have the opposite effect: perpetuating racial divisions and inequality. The authors argue that the theological perspective of evangelicals prevents them from even perceiving, much less addressing, systemic and structural injustices in American society.
